Break the Mold

Break the Mold is a 2D Roguelike where you play as a mutated slime mold breaking out of a science facility. This slime mold carries a makeshift hammer that it uses to battle scientists and destroy the facility.

Controls:

WASD- Movement and directional controls

Space- Jump

S+Space- Drop through platforms

Left Click- Main Attack*, Select

Right Click- Special Attacks**

E- Interact

Left Shift- Run

*Main attacks come in a three step combo, with each hit of the combo being more powerful than the last.

**Special attacks are generally more powerful than the main attack combo. However, they use 2 Stamina each. Stamina replenishes at a rate of 1 per second, to a maximum of 3.   Additionally, the special attack you use is dependent on what movement keys you are pressing, with a special attack and aerial version for each of the 4 directions.

Other Features:

The map is covered in destructible objects. Destroying these objects will reward the player with destruction score, and certain objects may contain mold cells that can be absorbed for health. Certain objects have special features, like rolling chairs that roll away when hit, and doors that block the player until destroyed.

At the end of each run, you are scored on your run time and destruction score. Your high scores are saved to a json file. 

There are scientists throughout the facility that will attack the player on sight. These scientists will attack using weapons such as crowbars and guns.

Credits:

The main font is Geo from Google Fonts. Otherwise, all assets were created by me. I coded the game using Unity and Visual Studio, did the art using Piskel, and made the music and sound effects using Ableton Live, or by recording sound effects.

Requirements:

In order to play, you need to use windows and have a mouse and keyboard. Headphones are recommended, but not necessary. The game is fairly well optimised, so most computers can run it.

Game Jam Challenges:

Add Title Screen or Pause Menu: The game features a title screen.

Add Save/Load Functionality: The game saves your high scores to a json file.

Dev Note:

I'm aware that there are bugs. I don't really have major plans to continue with this project, but if you report bugs in the comments,  I might decide to fix them.
